Learn About Your Eyes...

Q What is LASIK surgery?
A LASIK uses a cool beam of light from a laser to gently reshape
the front surface (cornea) of your eye in order to correct
nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Dr. Zissman
works with excellent surgeons in both Colorado and New Mexico.
Dr. Zissman offers complimentary LASIK consultations to
patients considering this surgery, and provides patients with their
pre-op and post-op care right here in Pagosa Springs.

Q What is a Comprehensive Eye Examination?
A At Mountain Eye Care, a comprehensive eye exam is thorough
and comfortable. Dr. Zissman checks your eyes for medical
conditions and diseases. He examines your visual abilities and
determines your current glasses or contact lens prescription. He
uses advanced diagnostic equipment throughout your eye exam.

Q How many types of Contact Lenses are there?
A Some common types of contact lenses include...
Multifocal Contacts - provide both near and distance vision
Colored Contacts - give your eyes a new color
Daily Disposables - a very hygienic, eye-healthy option
Extended Wear Contacts - are safe for overnight wear
Rigid Gas Permeable Contacts - "hard contacts"
Hybrid Contacts - a soft edge and hard center
Monovision - an alternative to bifocals for presbyopia
Orthokeratology Contacts - reshape the cornea
Silicone Hydrogel Contacts - give your eyes more oxygen
Toric Contacts - offer people with astigmatism great vision

Q What are Cataracts and Glaucoma?
A They are eye diseases. Cataracts occur when your lens
becomes hazy or cloudy, which may impair your vision. Cataract
surgery is very successful in restoring vision. Glaucoma is a
painless disease that gradually destroys the optic nerve. The most
common cause of Glaucoma is high eye pressure, which can
usually be treated with drops.

Q How does my Diabetes affect my eyes?
A Because Diabetes can damage your retina, you should schedule
a comprehansive eye exam every year. Retinal damage can be
treated if it is discovered early.

Q How can I tell if I have Macular Degeneration?
A A common symptom is blurred central vision that is noticeably
worse when reading. Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of
vision loss in Americans over 65.

Q I've never worn them, but can I try contacts?
A Of course! Dr. Zissman specializes in contact lenses and has
extensive experience with multifocal lenses, toric lenses for
astigmatism, and contact lenses for children.
